First XI lift John Barrow Cup

Worsley CC first XI completed the first part of a potential league and cup double with a 240-run victory over Blackley in the John Barrow Cup Final.


Openers Josh Wilson (66) and Tom Rawding (63) as Worsley struck an imposing 284-8 from their 45 overs after winning the toss.


In reply, no Blackley batter managed to reach double figures as they were bowled out for 44 in just 16.5 overs.


Dan Henshaw (4-14) led the way with the ball and was well supported by Rawding (3-9), Srini Valluru (2-4) and James Kilner (1-16).


In front of a vocal crowd, Wilson and Rawding put on 85 for the first wicket before the latter was bowled for 63 (9x4s, 1x6) from 42 balls.


Brogan joined Wilson and the pair took the score to 166 before Wilson was bowled for 66 by Abdullah Khan.


Wickets fell at regular intervals but useful contributions from Brogan (34), Chris Sharpe (32) and Riz Ulhaq (23) ensured Worsley had an imposing total at the break.


With regular opening bowler Adam Harris injured in the first innings, Henshaw took the new ball, with Rawding, blasted through the Blackley top order.


The pair shared the first four wickets to reduce Blackley to 17-4 with Kilner and Valluru ably supporting to seal a 240-run victory.
