Worsley Cricket Club was founded in 1846 by the 1st Earl Ellesmere as one of the ways of improving the lot of his estate workers and those involved in building St Mark’s Church.
Apart from during World War One, cricket has been played on the ground continuously in both a friendly and competitive capacity.
Worsley Cricket Club has had two other grounds but has been on its current delightful plot just through the trees off Walkden Road since the late 1800s.
